Right-click a parent task, choose Add subtask, enter its title, and save. Recorded in the real web interface with fictional tasks. · 30 seconds

Add a subtask from the task list

  1. Right-click the parent task to open its menu.
  2. Choose Add subtask. The entry field opens beneath the parent.
  3. Type a title, such as “Choose a place to stay.”
  4. Click Add or press Enter. The new task appears nested under its parent.

Understand the result

A subtask is a task with a parent. It can have its own state, dates, notes, and further subtasks. The tree keeps the relationship visible when you expand the parent.

A connected task tree belongs to one category. A new subtask uses the parent’s category. Tags can describe work across trees without moving it.

Cancel or retry

Press Escape or click Cancel to close an unfinished entry. An empty title cannot be added.

If saving fails, the title is kept and the form offers Retry. Retry the existing draft to avoid accidentally making two copies.

If Add subtask is unavailable

Check that you selected a single task and have editing access. Read-only shared tasks cannot be changed. Use the task detail controls on touch screens where a desktop right-click is unavailable.
