This guide covers the web Task Maps workspace. Native mobile parity should not be inferred from the responsive web interface.

Bring ideas and tasks into one visual plan. Recorded with fictional example data in the web app. · 26 seconds

Start a map

  1. Open Task Maps from the web sidebar and choose New map.
  2. Enter the map’s title, then choose Create map.
  3. In the editor, open Add to map. Choose Existing task, New task, Idea or Linked map depending on what you want to add.
  4. Use New group to collect related cards, then arrange and connect the work.

Choose the right kind of card

An idea is useful while a thought is still taking shape. A task card links to actionable work. A linked-map card connects a larger plan to another map.

When an idea becomes an action, the map can help you create or connect a task instead of keeping the plan separate from execution.

Turn an idea into a task

A task card points to the underlying task. Changes to that task appear wherever it is used.

  1. Select an idea card and open its details.
  2. Choose Category for new task.
  3. Choose Turn into task and wait for the task to be created.
  4. Use Open task editor on the resulting card to add dates, notes or subtasks.

Understand what the map changes

Putting task cards in a map group or changing their position organizes the map. It does not change the task’s category, parent, or custom task-list order.

Use Open task editor when you intend to edit the underlying task.

Find the map again

Return to the Task Maps overview and use its available organization and search controls. Map folders help organize maps as the collection grows.

Find a card in a larger plan

Other cards remain visible for context. Finding cards does not change the map’s progress totals.

  1. Expand Find & highlight.
  2. Enter a title, category or #tag, or narrow by Status, Category or Task owner.
  3. Choose Focus matches to bring matching cards into view.
  4. Choose Clear to remove the highlighting.
